A Car is Torched in the Gatherums

Monday, 28th June 2004

A car that had been left abandoned in the small car park in the Gatherums was set on fire on the afternoon of Monday, 28th June. The fire sent plumes of black smoke into the air and caused some damage to an adjoining vehicle. The blaze was promptly extinguished by firemen when they reached the scene.

The area is prone to graffiti and vandalism, and its current run-down state is not helping matters. Talks began aimed at bringing the Gatherums regeneration project forward in October 2003, but to date no regeneration work has taken place.
