Meridian Leisure Centre To Open

January 20th 2010

Meridian Leisure Centre
The new Meridian Leisure Centre on Wood Lane is due to open its doors at 8 a.m. on the 6th of February. It was originally slated for opening in 2009. It will offer a range of facilities, including a fitness suite, sauna and steam room, a 25 metre swimming pool, and a children's pool with a pirate ship and flume slide.

Memberships have been on sale at a stall in the Cornmarket, as well as at London Road Pavilion. Activities are also available at pay as you go rates, with a discount for keycard holders

Although the centre is still unfinished, you can visit the reception area to enquire about classes, but bookings won't be taken until the official opening on the 6th. There's pilates, zumba*, circuit training, boxercise, abs and stretch, aerobics, aquacise and spinning on offer.

The interior is airy, bright and spacious. The exterior photo above, taken on a bleak day in January, really doesn't do it justice: even in an incomplete state it's an attractive building.

Update: 22nd February
*Zumba is like a combination of Latin American dancing and aerobics. It's fast-paced and fun, and classes are proving very popular.
